As one can guess, Eklundapolska #3 is the third of three tunes called Eklundapolska. They were composed by Johan Leonard Larsson, better known as Viksta Lasse. He was born in 1897, and died in 1987.
Lasse was just a young boy in Viksta, Uppland, when he was taken on as protogé to Hjort Anders Olsson, the great fiddler from Bingsjö, Dalarna, when he moved to the city of Uppsala.
He composed Eklundapolska #1 when he was just 13 years old. Over the years, it was taken up into the repertoires of countless fiddlers all over Sweden.
Many years later, he composed #2, which is well recognized by most Swedish fiddlers, but is a bit more intricate and is less played.
Eklundapolska #3 was composed in Lasse’s old age, but has become one of the favorites of all his compositiions. YouTube has dozens of recordings of the tune, from all over the world, and on many instruments.
Here is a nice recording of a fiddler presenting Eklundapolska #3.
