Jontes från Skälsnäs Vals is a tune coming from an obscure fiddler from Småland. He supposedly “drank himself to death” in the 1880’s.
The tune itself is a favorite in the province of Småland, though, and is frequently played in some of the surrounding provinces, as well. It is found in the collection “Svenska Låtar – Småland”, #122.
Skälsnäs is a small peninsula in a lake in Småland. It is known as the childhood home of Albert Engström, a prominent artist and writer.
