Silkesvalsen, or “The Silk Waltz“, is a lovely dance tune from the town of Älvdalen, in Dalarna.
I first learned it in 1974 in Sweden, and it was immediately picked up by my American friends upon my return home. It became a regular part of my Swedish repertoire on both fiddle and nyckelharpa over the years.
I remembered it as being in the key of A minor, and used to play it that way all the time. When I had the chance to play it with Swedes, though, I found that G minor was the traditional key.
