Vals från Jättendal

This is a Vals från Jättendal, a small place in the province of Hälsingland.   It comes to us from the playing of a fiddler named Andreas Olsson.

With the switching between major and minor keys, and the first reprise consisting of 14 instead of 16 measures, this waltz exemplifies the complexities often found in Swedish tunes.

Here is a video of me playing this lovely waltz.
