\u00a0 Hablingarnas Brudmarsch<\/b> is also known as a\u00a0Gotl\u00e4ndsk Brudmarsch<\/strong>, but not to be confused with the better known\u00a0Gotlands Brudmarsch<\/strong>.\u00a0 The title means “The Bridal March of the people from Hablingbo”, a town on the island of Gotland in the middle of the Baltic Sea.<\/p>

The tune is a wedding march credited to a fiddler known as\u00a0B\u00e5tel Hannare<\/strong>.\u00a0 \u00a0Doing my research, I was not able to get definitive information about him.\u00a0 But there was a fiddler in the neighborhood of Hablingbo named B\u00e5tel Johansson<\/strong>, who lived from 1849 to 1922.\u00a0 Until I learn more, I will assume that Hannare was Johansson’s nickname.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

This is the second best-known wedding march from Gotland.\u00a0 Because of the difficulty in getting to Gotland from the mainland, Swedish fiddlers from other provinces did not mingle with Gotland fiddlers as much as those who were land-based.\u00a0 This is one of those tunes that did become widespread in the rest of Sweden, though.<\/p>

Gotland music is more influenced by classical music styling than most Swedish fiddling.\u00a0 At the beginning of the 20th century a book was published,\u00a0Gotlandstoner<\/strong>, that contained over 700 Gotland traditional tunes.<\/p>
