Skepparschottis<\/strong>, or “the Skipper Schottische”, is one of the most popular old-time dance tunes in Sweden right now.<\/p>

\u00a0 It was composed by\u00a0Thore H\u00e4rdelin<\/strong>, one of the great living fiddlers today.\u00a0 \u00a0He is from the town of Delsbo, in H\u00e4lsingland.\u00a0 \u00a0His father, Sven H\u00e4rdelin<\/strong>, was an important leader of the fiddling movement in H\u00e4lsingland in the 20th century, and his grandfather,\u00a0Thore H\u00e4rdelin the elder<\/strong>, was a very important fiddler in the tradition.<\/p>

\u00a0 The tune got its name when Thore bought a boat, and had all kinds of bad luck with it –\u00a0 motor breaking down, it sinking, and more.\u00a0 \u00a0He named the schottis in memory of his boating adventure.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Thore was a nationally known character in the 1970’s and beyond.\u00a0 \u00a0He was one third of Sk\u00e4ggmanslaget<\/strong> (the Bearded Men’s Team), perhaps the most prominent fiddle group of its time in Sweden.\u00a0 \u00a0The group still performs today, even making new recordings.<\/p>

\u00a0 He also starred in a TV documentary about\u00a0Hultkl\u00e4ppen<\/strong>, a legendary H\u00e4lsingland fiddler, and in another film about H\u00e5rgal\u00e5ten<\/strong>, in which he was the devil playing the fiddle, causing some young people to dance to death!<\/p>
