\u00a0 The\u00a0Stekl\u00e5t efter Per Persson Menl\u00f6s\u00a0<\/strong>is a type of tune not usually played by American Swedish fiddlers.\u00a0 A\u00a0stekl\u00e5t\u00a0<\/strong> “meat tune” is a ceremonial piece that was used at feasts, usually wedding feasts.<\/p>

\u00a0 A wedding in a small village was a major event, sometimes lasting as much as 3 days in celebration.\u00a0 Fiddle music was a large part of it, and not all just for dancing.\u00a0 \u00a0There were tunes for gift-giving (sk\u00e4nkl\u00e5t), wedding marches (brudmarsch & br\u00f6llopsmarsch), and tunes for the food when served.\u00a0 The stekl\u00e5t was played when the meat was brought in at the wedding dinner.<\/p>

\u00a0 The tune is the construct of a march, but played much more slowly, to emphasize the solemnity of the occasion.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u00a0 Per Persson Menl\u00f6s\u00a0<\/b>was a noted fiddler from Hedesunda, in the province of G\u00e4strikland.\u00a0 \u00a0It is very close to the border with Uppland, and many of his tunes are played there, too.<\/p>

\u00a0 He was devoted to his music, even as a young boy.\u00a0 \u00a0His musical talent inspired stories about him, having to do with magic and the supernatural.<\/p>
