Polska efter Gås Anders

The fiddler known as Gås Anders lived in the small town of Björklinge, in the province of Uppland.  His real name was Anders Ljungkvist, born in 1815 and died in 1896.  As a boy he had work tending geese in the neighborhood, and got the nickname “Goose-Anders” the rest of his life.

He left a legacy of wonderful music, great stories, and hundreds of tunes.  His name is magical among Uppland fiddlers.

To the left is a statue of Gås Anders with Björklinge Church in the background.  For more than a half century it has been a landmark that passersby on the road through town like to stop and see.

Here is a YouTube recording of this polska being played on nyckelharpa by the great player, Eric Sahlström.  It is a little faster than is played normally for dancing, but is an excellent rendition, nonetheless.
